Corneal Dystrophy

There are many types of corneal dystrophies that result from an accumulation of foreign materials on the cornea (the clear outer layer of the eye). Typically these disorders form gradually and slowly progress to impair vision. This group of genetic eye disorders affects people of all ages equally and they may or may not have symptoms. However, some corneal dystrophies can cause significant vision problems.
